In the book Personality isn’t Permanent by Benjamin Hardy, he highlights how our interpretation of the past, present and future molds our personality. He even challenges the status quo thinking that personality is fixed, by saying our personalities are malleable if we choose them to be.
Hardy goes on to say; “When you begin actively and intentionally moving forward in your life, your future gets better and so does your past. Your past becomes something that happens for you, not to you.” Furthermore, that your past is fiction; therefore it can define you how you see fit based on how you choose to remember the experience.
Human beings are experience and situation makers. Meaning, we create how we perceive the world. The world does not care about how you turn out, only you can determine that. With a forward focus on who and what we can become and reframing our past traumas or experiences into positive propulsions, we can effectively control the story our past tells us.
My question is…. How are you allowing your past to define your perspectives and if you are not who you want to be; what are you going to do about it?
